Work-Based Learning (WBL)

A portal has been developed for the programme Work-Based Learning. This web interface enables the communication between students and their mentors and it also facilitates the keeping track of the students' progress in the programme WBL.

Quote from WBL Portal:

"WBL is a collaborative initiative between the University of Mauritius, the University of Bradford, the Department for Education & Skills, UK and the British Council, under the England-Africa Partnerships project. Its main aim is to enable undergraduate students to gain experience in the real world of work and business environments in order to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and professional attributes which enhance employability and inculcate a work ethics culture."

IHREP -
Interactive Human Resource Electronic Platform

Mauritius is presently facing numerous economic challenges, best summed up by the Minister of Finance’s last budget speech. Unemployment is at its highest level in twenty years, while a mismatch of skills in the Mauritian labour market has been identified as one of the major drawbacks holding back economic development.

To answer the problem, the government has launched the Empowerment
Programme in the context of which the VCILT is in charge of setting up an interactive employment portal, as an instrument integrating the unemployed database, profiling tools, employers training gaps and job profiles.
