Sandhya Gunness - Lecturer Open and Online -


Sandhya joined the VCILT as Instructional Designer since December 2003 and has been lecturing part-time on the MSc Computer-Mediated Communications and Pedagogies since its inception, namely on the ILT 6011, principles of CMCP and ILT 6013, Design Principles of Multimedia Learning Environments.

Her main duties as Instructional Designer extensively involved liasing with the academics who wish to put their modules on-line. In that capacity, she carries out research on the topics that are to be delivered in the e-mode and presents the academics with viable templates, structures and activities for pedagogically sound e-learning solutions.

Lecturing mainly on principles of Computer Mediated communications and Pedagogies which comprises e-learning platforms, e-tutoring and collaborative activities,she also teaches modules pertaining to Learning design, Open educational Resources and Instructional Design of Multimedia Learning Environments.

Sandhya has successfully led international e-learning projects (COMESA e-learning Project, Seychelles ALDEC e-learning platform training ( and coordinated two nation-wide projects namely the Domestic Violence Website funded by the UNDP for the Ministry of Women (Mauritius) and the Slave Database project (Nelson Mandela Centre for African Culture, Mauritius).

She has also coordinated the first Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth organised by the Commonwealth of Learning at the University of Mauritius and organised a number of Professional Development workshops for University Staff and Local TEIs in e-learning and Instructional design.
